Britt5091 Origins: Thanks Sony! Your PS3 Slim (plus the Playstation Team?s confidence) won me $75!

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

Thanks Sony! Your PS3 Slim (plus the Playstation Team’s confidence) won me $75!

August 19th, 2009

That’s right, due to yesterday’s announcement I find myself holding a wrinkly $50 bill, a crisp $20 and a $5.

You see, I consider myself a good, honest person, but when someone I know named Ryan (we’ll consider him an ‘acquaintance’ of mine) practically asked to give me $75 it was hard to pass up.

Ryan is the biggest Microsoft fanboy I know. He practically basks in the light given off by the RROD (54% failure rate? Did you see that? Holy shit!) and is constantly trying to pick flamewar fights with me. This never gets anywhere because I don’t worship a specific console, and it’s near impossible to have a legitimate conversation when it comes to consoles with this dude.

Let me take you back two days to Monday, the night before Sony’s GC conference.

We’re hanging out with a few friends and he starts bashing Sony by saying Home is terrible, the controllers suck, graphics are inferior, blahblah (I’m stuffing my mouth full of food so I don’t say anything) and as he continues on, he drops the ball:

“Plus their prices are ridiculous. I would bet anyone 75 bucks we won’t see a price drop on the PS3 for at least another year.”

Literally spitting food everywhere (gross I know) I immediately blurted I’d take that bet.

Buuusstteeed. He wasn’t expecting anyone to take him up on that.

I then reminded him as I took another bite that Gamescom was tomorrow and Sony had a press conference at 9:30 am PST.

The look on his face was priceless. Actually, it was worth about 75 bucks.

Honestly I think we all knew it was coming. For me, there was just too much information surrounding the Slim for it to be fake, plus I had just listened to the latest Podcast Beyond! a few hours prior, and I WANT to say the editors gave it a 100% chance of it happening. Nail in the coffin, baby.

So anyway, thanks Sony, thanks PlayStation team, and if you’re reading this, thank YOU Ryan. I’m now off to buy a pair of shoes at Nordstrom I’ve been eyeing for a while that I can now afford.

Bwahaha.

Victory had never tasted so sweet. Also, Ryan, I will never forget you. Not only for your gracious $75 donation, but for other things I dare not mention in the rare case that you are reading this.

Storiez: I haz them.
