Britt5091 Origins: PAX Day 2 roundup!

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

PAX: Day 2 roundup!

September 6th, 2009

What you didn’t see is RIGHT before this, Ratchet was petting me. My hair, my face, the works. That’s why I’m laughing so hard.

Yesterday was low key. Due to the UW game last night, I only attended one panel (Star Wars: The Old Republic) however was able to get my hands on a few more games. Though my time with all was limited, I was able to get distinct first impressions.

Dante’s Inferno (PS3)
*The setting is just sweet. Staggering cliffs, molten lava spouting, bats swarming… personally haven’t seen anything like this before so I was impressed.
*I liked the combat. It’s the typical X to jump, square to swing your badass weapon, and I believe triangle was a special move I can’t remember. Simple, the way I like it.
*When I played, I noticed there were a lot of moments where you would be prompted to hit specific buttons during typical gameplay. You’ll jump to a cliff, then the triangle button will flash, nail that and you will then jump to another cliff and then be prompted to push square. Slip up and you’re a dead Dante.
*I’ll rent this one first.

Gettin’ my Dante on

Dead Space Extraction (Wii)
*Thrown into gameplay during a major fight, I had no clue what I was doing. I still couldn’t tell you, actually.
*I really tried not to laugh at the graphics. But I’ve been playing a lot of PS3/360 games so it was hard. But for the Wii, it looked purdy. I’ll give it that.
*Normally I scoff and stay away from on-rails. However something about this one has me forgetting those tidbits and I will admit I had fun with it.
*I probably would have had more fun if I could hear the damn Nintendo staff explaining the controls. My partner also hogged all the med packs and ammo. Thanks chica.
*A definite rent. I’m pretty sure you can complete the game during a rents time anyway.

White Knight Chronicles (PS3)
*I was in the middle of a huge field. That’s all I knew. Moving around, the controls seemed a lil’ clumsy (?) to me. Not sure if clumsy is the right word. It may have been that I just gotten done with Dante’s Inferno (which was extremely fluid) but meh the controls didn’t do it for me. I’m sure given some time with it I’d get used to them and quit bitching.
*The combat system kind of reminded me of Final Fantasy XII. If you’ve been keeping up on this game I’m sure you’ve seen it.
*The game has a ton of potential and can’t wait to see the polished product.

Some Nerf Game (Wii)
*Uh yeah. Don’t remember the name. Even if I did, I doubt anyone here gives a flying shit about it. Nerf 2: Strike something or another. Weeeee.

As I mentioned earlier, I attended the Star Wars: The Old Republic panel today. Walked in with nothing, walked out (along with everyone else) with a free download code for Knights of the Old Republic. Sweet. BioWare also demoed two classes, a few worlds, combat, dialogue, revealed you will be able to play as species other than humans and there will be a level cap. That’s as deep as those revelations went.

A few more random pictures:

I’m bound and determined to ride that thing

Another Zelda tat for my collection.

And finally…UW football kicked off last night!

It was a loss, but I?m proud of our boys.

Mmkay I’m off again! Gotta get my last day of gaming in!

Update

April 25th, 2012

Damn. I never did ride the Darksiders horse. Wait. Why did I say Darksiders? Is that even from Darksiders? Oh well. Point is I never rode it and that makes me not as cool as I was five seconds ago.

Dante’s Inferno…never rented it. Knights of the Old Republic…never downloaded it. HOWEVER I do remember The Old Republic panel quite vividly and I must say it was a HUGE deal to actually be in attendance The line was absolutely ridiculous (over a few hours long) and I remember being pissed because the person I was with didn’t want to be at PAX, so they were very impatient. LOL! Oh MAN. Good times. XD

Let’s see… I never picked up Dead Space: Extraction. In fact the next time I would play that game would be when I participated in Extra Life with Tara when we were still doing Zaxy shenanigans! Or maybe that was Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles…

TOO MANY ON-RAILS.
