PS3 to PS4 Game Upgrade Process Explained

good guy greg

Sony has quelled our fears (or something, I personally didn’t have any fears but it just sounded good) regarding their game upgrade system.

Let’s say you purchase Battlefield 4 for the PlayStation 3 because A) You’re so FREAKIN’ STOKED you can’t wait to get it on the PlayStation 4 or B) You don’t have immediate plans to purchase a PS4. Now, let’s say you LUUUUUUURVE you some Battlefield 4 PS3 action, and since purchasing BF4 you’ve saved up enough pocket change for a PS4. Oh, how you long to experience the game on all of the next-gen console glory!

But shit! Who wants to fork over mucho dinero for the same game on a different console?!

NEVER FEAR, YO.

For $9.99 you’ll be able to “upgrade” your copy of Battlefield 4 for the PlayStation 4. Same goes for Watch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Disc-based games will come with a redeemable code, so make sure you hold onto it AND the disc — you’ll need it. If you’re a person of the future and downloaded your PS3 game, PS4 versions will show up on the PS Store with the reduced pricing.

SNAZZY. I like it.

The only (semi?) drawback is that these are limited promotions. For example, you only have until January 31st, 2014 to take advantage of this offer for Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch Dogs. March 28th is the deadline for Battlefield 4, and March 31st is the last day to upgrade your copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts. However, as long as you redeem your code before those deadlines you’ll be set when you eventually get a PS4. So, no biggie.

Good guy Sony. <3.
