Holy balls on fire, it’s been a while since I’ve played infamous 2. Not that I’ve been playing anything else, but still, holy balls on fire.
I think I’m a little infamous’d out. When I was ¾ of the way through the first infamous I told myself I would play a very story-oriented RPG afterward. Buuut when it came time to wrap up infamous, and the ending completely blew my brain into chunks, I had no choice but to start the second. IT WAS THAT GOOD.
So I did, and although infamous 2 is a good time, it lacks the story I’m craving. Not that the story isn’t good the way it is, but it’s kinda like this (I’m going to use food as an example because it’s one of the few things I love and understand): Let’s say your favorite food is Italian. But one night you decide to be a little different and eat at a Chinese restaurant. You thoroughly enjoy the food the restaurant provides. As you drive home, you think to yourself, man, that was tasty, but all it really did was spark my craving for Italian food! But the next time you have the opportunity to eat out, you go back to the Chinese restaurant. As you look over the menu, your enthusiasm dwindles. Sure, the egg rolls are tasty, but where’s the chicken parmesan?!
…well, that made sense in my head, anyway. Dunno about you.
Bottom line: I feel like I’m not giving infamous 2 a fair shake, and as much as this hurts me to say, I think I need to take a break from New Marais. Anyone who has played an infamous game knows the focus lies on upgrading and utilizing Cole’s powers, scaling the city and killing bad dudes in style–the story isn’t the game’s main selling point. Now, I’m not saying the story isn’t good, because it fits perfectly with the type of game infamous is—which is why I feel like I’m not giving infamous 2 the chance it deserves. It’s not the game’s fault I’m eating Chinese food when I really want Italian.
And hell, I’m not that far into it. I could play something else (LIKE PANZER DRAGOON SAGA IF MY FREAKIN’ SEGA SATURN IS EVER RETURNED TO ME, YEAH I’M TALKING TO YOU MISTER EBAY SELLER) and refer to the game log to refresh my memory of where I left off.
I HATE DOING THIS. But, like I said above, I think it’d be better if I do so when I revisit infamous 2, I will love it so hard.
Yeah playing infamous 2 soon after the first one can get a bid stale I’d imagine. I had to go for platinum so I beat it back-to-back in succession. Needless to say, I never want to see New Marais again, as nice as it was.
This Happened to me when I played Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 on a second play through right after beating it..I got so burned out that I needed to do something else.
A lot of the “story-focused” games, like a lot of RPGs out there, bore me with their loose stories of collected fan-fiction. Maybe it’s just the RPG habit of giving me a bunch of filler so that the whole experience feels watered down to me.
Here is the secret. You have to play the sequel upside down while on valium,sipping on a strawberry shake from Dairy Queen with your favorite pajamas on (but cover them with grade A clover honey from Kentucky) and then you’ll love the second game.
I did the same exact thing with these two games. Played infamous, got blown away by the ending, just HAD to start Infamous 2 immediately afterward. Got bored with it about 1/4 of the way through and haven’t touched it since.
I think it’s mainly due to the fact that there isn’t much difference in the gameplay. Granted I doubt they could’ve changed too much, but it just felt very… same-y. At any rate it didn’t hold my interest, even though there is the promise of another holy crap ending.
To use a food analogy as well, it’s kinda like eating cookie dough. That first half of the bowl is so awesome and delish, but it starts to become a stomach-churning chore once the hypersugar sweats kick in. :P
But much like cookie dough, I will be going back to it sooner or later. :)
