Gearbox Software’s New IP, Battleborn, Revealed

Gearbox Software — the ones we all know and love for their wonderful wall-sphincterific (I don’t even know what I’m saying) Borderlands games — has announced their new IP, Battleborn. It’s described as a “hero-shooter” by big man Randy Pitchford, and will incorporate MOBA elements into this narrative co-op and competitive multiplayer eye-pleasing game of awesomeness.

GOT IT?!

Via the official website:

“Battleborn is a next-gen hero-shooter brought to you by the creators of the award-winning and best-selling Borderlands franchise. In Battleborn’s distant future, the only hope for the last star in a dying universe is a new breed of warriors, who must put aside their differences to drive back an unstoppable menace. Choose from a myriad of powerful heroes and fight together alongside your friends in an intense co-operative campaign, or battle against them in fast-paced competitive multiplayer matches.”

GameInformer.com has an entire hub dedicated to Battleborn, so if this game has successfully tickled your fancy you can find more information over there. Battleborn is a PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC game that will launch…well, sometime “during Take-Two Interactive’s upcoming fiscal year ending March 31, 2016.”

I’m seriously digging all of the poppin’ ‘n pretty colors used for the trailer, and I’m a fan of (what I can gather to be) the futristic fantasy setting. My only concern is that I will have to play with — and this is going to make me sound like a reclusive douchebag — other people 24/7. AKA I hope there are cooperative bots that are available. Don’t get me wrong, online multiplayer is a blast. But sometimes I just want to do my own thing, you know? (Which is why I was super stoked to learn Evolve will also feature AI cooperative bots. SQUEE!)

You excited for Battleborn? Gearbox has a pretty great track record when it comes to these sort of games soooo I think the world is going to love it and embrace it and raise it as its own. Also, I’m fucking weird.

  1. I was disappointed by the fact that it’s another FPS. Like, is it just gonna be Borderlands with a new art style and competitive multiplayer? We’ve still barely seen anything though. So I’ll try and hold my judgement till we do.

      • Same. I’m sure it’ll be great, because ya know, Gearbox. lol. I just wish they’d branch out more. I don’t want them to be a one trick pony. I’d even be satisfied if they made it third person instead. But again. We hardly know anything. I just complain too much. xD

  2. This and the initial trailer for Wildstar a long time ago just make me want to see an animated series instead of the game. I mean, this’ll probably be fun, but for only so long. After some time I’ll just feel meh about the game because I’ve torn thru it when I could have been remembering fondly of that cool movie or show with the space elf, gentleman robot, and tiny feet muscle man.

Also I want to be the big dress sword lady.

    • I want to be the big dress sword lady too! I’m not sure if I’ll feel “meh” myself, but I agree — an animated series would be pretty rad. Telling you. Game designers know their shit more than those cartoon folk.

  3. Art style looks pretty sweet and I had a ton o fun with Borderlands so this has me intrigued. Hit me up if you need a partner Britt…after enough bong hits I’m basically a bot anyways so I can just follow you around and shoot what you tell me to :P
