Dragon Age: Inquisition Trailer

I’m trying so hard not to squee all over this post. I’m going to grab a hold of every fiber in my being and keep this post, serious, legitimate and OH MY FUCKING GOD IT’S THE DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION TRAILER!!!1111dkfjdkla

The teaser trailer you see above was unveiled during yesterday’s EA 2013 E3 press conference, and you better believe my gaping-mouthed ass was in the 7th row with eyes-wide and pants wet.  I’ve watched this trailer four or five times now, but the second time I watched it it was like watching it for the first time. I DIDN’T REMEMBER ANYTHING. Yes, I really was that star-struck.

DA TWEEEEETS

Allow me to bestow a sincere apology to the people in front of me for screaming like a madwoman during the unveil, also, every time Dragon Age was mentioned. If you find me I’ll donate 10 cents towards your future hearing aid.

Alright, let’s get to it. First, here’s the summary on Dragon Age: Inquisition’s website:

Explore a vast, fantasy world at the brink of catastrophe in Dragon Age: Inquisition, a next-generation action RPG, where your choices shape and drive the experience. In this upcoming video game from BioWare, makers of Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age: Origins, you’ll make your mark in an expansive, story-driven open world filled with complex characters, challenging combat and difficult decisions.

A cataclysmic event has plunged the land of Thedas into turmoil. Dragons now darken the sky, casting a shadow of terror over a once-peaceful kingdom. Mages have broken into an all-out war against the oppressive Templars. Nations rise against one another. It falls to you to restore order as you lead the Inquisition and hunt down the agents of chaos – your choices will forever change the Dragon Age.

My brain is going 90 MPH — I’ll do my best to transcribe my thoughts into (semi) coherent paragraphs below:

  • We already knew Inquisition would place our hero in the middle of a Thedas clusterfuck, so that’s nothing new. But I gotta say after reading a bit about Inquisition and other fan reactions I’m more stoked than ever to watch the politics of Thedas (the only politics I enjoy!) go down in a fiery clusterfuck. There is just so MUCH history and backstory of Dragon Age we haven’t been able to see just yet with previous installments, so like I’ve said numerous times before I hope hope HOPE we get a well-rounded, first-hand look at the true world of Thedas.
  • Any fan of Dragon Age will tell you the characters are one of, if not THE, most important assets of the game. While I may have griped about certain aspects of Dragon Age II, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. I want nothing more than to see the characters of Dragon Age II (as Varric is shown in the trailer) and Dragon Age: Origins (Morrigan is narrating) come together and exchange personalities. Oh, the bantering we’ll hear.
  • Numerous fans speculate that massive dragon we see is Flemmeth, and I’m leaning with them on this one. Dragon Age II sorta-kinda scratched the surface of Dragon Age: Origins’ story. I’m excited to touch base on that weird Jerry Springer-esque scenario. I mean, where”s Morrigan and Alistair’s lovechild? What has Flemmeth been up to this entire time? Where is Alistair and why isn’t he banging me?! THE PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW, BIOWARE.

I don’t want to over analyze things (which will, let’s face it, happen anyway) so I’ll leave it at that for now. Let me know what you thought of the trailer, and where you think the story will head in Dragon Age: Inquisition!

  1. You dont think the Dragon is maybe the love child? Remember it’s supposed to be some sort of old god thing… that would be cool no?

    • Also, yea the characters are what’s important. Except for Anders DA2 had a stellar cast of characters, some of my favorite characters in the series even. Anders was awesome in the DA:O Expansion as was Justice… sadly when they put those two goods together it made a whinny b!tch. :/

      • yea I except Flemmeth, Morrigan, and the baby to be main characters. They’ve teased them too much to just leave them out of another game.

    • I’ve been wondering this myself. It doesn’t look like the Flemeth dragon, who has a more narrow snout, but it’s also not very archdemon-y, either (then again we’ve only actually seen the Old God of Beauty as an archdemon so far). Old god lovechild appearance would be AWESOME.

  2. …I…this….too much. It’s too much awesomeness at once.

Morrigan is back!! I really hope they keep the character customization like it was back in Dragon Age: Origins, and if they allow us to copy our warden from Dragon Age: Origins over to this one I may feint, squeal and jump with excitement.

    Not necessarily in that order.

      • I’m just worried that they’re going to completely leave out the Warden from the last game, and only reference the child. Dragon Age 2 seemed to move on pretty completely from the fact that Ferelden was almost completely destroyed by a Blight that was for hundreds of years no longer considered a threat.

Morrigan: “Oh, and I had a kid with the soul of an Old God with this Warden who helped stop the first Blight in hundreds of years. I think they’re skiing in Orlais.”

  3. I almost never used Alistair in my party. Though I did name my first character Alistair, having not known he was actually a game character. Much confusion was had.

  4. GIRL I KNOW THAT FEEL. (;A;) I was listening for your scream, haha!

I thought my heart was going to explode during that awesome trailer. And freaking MORRIGAN, omg. I can’t. Seeing old companions is the best.

It’s going to be a long, long year and a half, but I suspect that it will be worth the wait! ^^

    • HAHA! I agree too, it’s going to be such a long wait but it’ll totally be worth! Let’s squee over each new trailer together from now on!
