Things I Learned This Weekend

We’re always learning and discovering new things, aren’t we? Whether it’s mini life lessons that make life just a little more convenient, or lessons that change your entire outlook on life. Whereas (thankfully) nothing drastic happened, I did make a few mental notes this weekend.

Note to self: Stay away from Grandma’s when in a money crunch.

I always try and make a point to visit my grandparents when I’m in town. But damn, when my g-ma has little gizmos and gadgets lying around like this…

…it makes me want to find the nearest corner, squat down and cry. “Oh, this?” She says, “The PSP Go? I got this the day it released. I just opened it and its charging. Could you configure it for me?”

Never having touched a PSP in my life, I was more than eager to assist.

Ummm…is there such thing as love at first touch? Because now I’m tempted. Sooo tempted to spend $250.00 bucks very soon. And what’s weird, I didn’t even play a game on it. As soon as I held that sexy, black, (at the time) smudge-free handheld gaming system I wanted it.

Note to self: Buyer’s remorse sucks. Period.

Once upon a time, there was a chick named Britt. Britt was interested in a game titled Brutal Legend. Seeing footage at PAX and everywhere else on the damn planet, she became high off of the enormous marking push and decided to flat out purchase said game before renting or giving the demo a shot.

After bringing Brutal Legend home, she progressed an hour into the story only to realize she was playing on the wrong 360 profile. Slightly, erm, discouraged, she shelved this game for the time being. Sadly the urge to play Brutal Legend has since vanished, leaving one less slot in her cabinet and 60 bucks less in her checking account.

Note to self: I am easy to please.

I’m a fan of what has been called one of the worst ‘attempts’ at anime: Dragon Ball, DBZ and DBGT. Maybe it’s the downright cheesiness of it all, or maybe it’s the huge muscles and protruding veins (I kid, I kid) but I flat out love this show and own more episodes than I know what to do with.

Upon hearing about Dragonball Evolution, I was psyched for a full length animated/computerized doohickey. When it was announced that the film would be using real actors it was an instant boner kill. After that I stopped paying attention and figured it was a film that wouldn’t be worth seeing, even if I loved the animated series.

Months later, curiosity finally got the best of me (as it usually does) and last Sunday I curled up on the couch and gave it a long awaited watch.

The verdict:

Either I am easy to please, or it wasn’t as bad as a film as everyone made it out to be.

My vote goes toward I’m easy to please.

Those that have never seen heard or understood the dynamics of DB wouldn’t understand what in Kami’s name was happening and probably would want nothing more than to shoot themselves after the opening scene. And really, the film felt a little rushed and didn’t explain itself half of the time. But to a seasoned vet like myself, I got it — or what it was that was trying to be portrayed, anyway.

Update: August 7th, 2012

I REMEMBER CONFIGURING MY GRANDMA’S PSP! Oh, that was fun times indeed. I actually did fall in love with it, but I ended up purchasing a PSP 3000 at a later date. I only, uh, play it when I travel. And as far as Brutal Legend goes…yeaaaaaaaah. I no have touchied it in long time.

Dragonball Evolution, on the other hand, I saw again with my dad and I think he ended up disliking it which was surpising because I thought HE was a lot easier to please than I am. And he loves the DB universe (even if he can’t tell the difference between Goku, Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Vegeta).

That note to Keggerz1 was re: my last hunting post. I barely remember he left a comment on my IGN profile saying something or another about wanting to cause harm to my family. WHAT A NICE GUY.
