Britt5091 Origins: The swag that keeps on giving

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

The swag that keeps on giving

September 11th, 2009

As I lay in bed watching Knocked Up for the first time, I can’t get my mind off a three letter word ending in ‘X’.

PAX.

I’m cursing it up and down and wish I could get my hands on the few grubby attendees that brought a certain something with them.

Thanks a lot, patient(s) zero. Because of you and your germs, I and hundreds of other PAX goers have your disease.

Regardless as to whether or not it is a case of the confirmed H1N1 outbreak that occurred at PAX, it’s some sort of flu.

Body aches? Check. I feel like I just did a triathlon.
Fever? Check. 102.3 to be exact.
Coughing? Check. Lung butter galore.
Frequent bathroom trips? Check. Not much needs to be said here.
Loss of energy? Check. I think I’ve only been awake for 5 hours today.
Loss of appetite? Psh, please. I never lose that.
Stuffed/runny nose? Check. Gone through three boxes of Kleenex.
Chills? Check. Four blankets and a fever and I’m shivering my ass off.

I’ll be the first to admit, PAX was 100% worth it and I would surely do it all over again knowing I would get sick.

Unfortunately, this weekend was supposed to be just as busy as the last, and I’ve already had to cancel some major plans and quarantine myself.

1) Had to cancel lunch plans with some friends I haven’t seen in months.
2) As I type I am missing out on a Jason Aldean concert I paid $50 to go to. I don’t think we have many country fans on these blogs, so I’ll move on…
3) One of my best friend’s 21-run is tonight.
4) Tomorrow at 7 AM I am supposed to start tailgating for UW vs. Idaho football.
5) I most likely will miss the game, which will probably be our first win after 15 straight losses.
6) I have been officially uninvited to a wedding, as they don’t want me to get the elderly sick. Kinda funny but I totally understand.

However, an upside to all of this is my wonderful non-gaming friends were so sick of hearing me talk about this thing called ‘Mass Effect’, they bought me a copy as a sympathy present.

Oink-fuckity-oink.

Stay healthy everyone!

Update

May 15th, 2012

Ugh. Just reading about having H1Nerd1 makes my face flush and my stomach queasy. Besides the bout of E-Coli I had in Mexico, that was the sickest I have ever been. …I remember writing that post from my old crusty apartment, slowly dying….ah, yes. Good times indeed.

But, again, PAX was totally worth it! And I guess I did get a week off of work, and Mass Effect became a thing I owned because of it. ALTHOUGH at first I didn’t like Mass Effect. I couldn’t get past the slow start, and seeing as how I was sick it didn’t make for a good first impression.

Kinda funny that I’m now struggling to finish the freakin’ TRILOGY!!!
