Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.
PAX tomorrow!
September 3rd, 2009
Eeeeeeee.
Tomorrow I will make my n00bish attempt to navigate through the Washington State Convention and Trade Center amongst 60,000+ people to get my hands on the latest and greatest in gaming. I’ll browse booths ranging from Bethesda to Valve, as well as check out promising panels aaallll related to gaming. And it’s only 10 minutes away from me.
Going through my brain right now:
*I’ll be going it alone tomorrow. It’s all good, because from what I’ve heard you tend to split off from your friends anyway. However I am directionally and couldn’t find my way through a one way maze if I wanted to. So tomorrow it will just be me and my trusty map. Hopefully I won’t get lost and become swallowed by the masses.
*When I asked for any tips, Brian from the blogs recommended I shower and wear deodorant, but this will be a difficult challenge for me. I’ll try my best.
*I know a few acquaintances running a booth tomorrow. They asked if I would be interested in wearing a costume and doing, er, ‘booth babe’ duties. It would be fun, but I’d rather wander around ogling all the gaming goodness. But I told them if I find myself bored I’ll do it. They laughed at me.
*I’m still unsure which panels I’ll check out tomorrow, but most likely I’ll go to PAX 2009 Keynote Ron Gilbert, Weapons 101 (featuring members from Insomniac Games, who we all know create the craziest weapons), Spike Sneak Peaks (Spike’s Geoff Keighley will host guests Tim Schafer from Brutal Legend and Naughty Dog will show a brand-new look at Uncharted 2), Borderlands( I might go to this for a bit; the Director and Create Producer will be answering questions and showing more footage) Live Demo of Assassins Creed II and Splinter Cell Conviction.
*Remember the chocolate room from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Where EVERYTHING is made of chocolate? That’s how I have tomorrow envisioned, but with gaming (chocolate would be nice too, though!). I can only hope!
*I hope they have good, greasy food.
I’m excited…I’ll try to post about it Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. They are going to be reaaaallly long days (12+ hours) but I’mma try.\

Update

Check out those panels! So funny – “a brand-new look at Uncharted 2!” “That Tim Schafer dude from Brutal Legend!” “Assassin’s Creed II!”
It’s weird to sit back and really consider how much has happened since then. Not only industry-wise, but guys, that was my FIRST videogame convention EVER! E-V-A-R. I had yet to go to PAX East, let alone E3, and I remember having absolutely no idea what to expect; I actually printed packets of information re: the exhibitors/booths/panels and studied it during the days leading up to PAX.
Unfortunately, I would end up catching Swine flu from PAX, but heeeeey.
This is where being a true disgusting pig has served me well. I was flu-less coming out of PAX last year! :D
