Britt5091 Origins: Just a Gaming Chick Venting

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

Just a gaming chick venting…

YAY for E3 2009! I was hoping Nintendo was going to give me a reason to dust off my Wii. (seriously, I haven’t had it plugged in for months. WAIT. I take that back. I played GH on it for a day in April) and they did a decent job of convicing me to get the ‘ol duster out…..in a year when all the games release, ugh. I doubt we’ll be getting SMG2 anytime soon, but that’s okay cuz I am pumped for the NSMB for Wii. I’ve been saying they need to do something like that on a console for years now! >_< And I’m not gonna lie, my heart sank after the nintendo pc and no mention of Zelda… then I saw the tweet (lol)  about that roundtable discussion and before I knew it I was looking at the first showing of Zelda art. I bet that little fairy/elf thing has something to do with the master sword…but anyway. Or maybe, as everyone is saying in the forums, Link is now a Jedi. RAWFLMAO

Ah, forums… I looove watching all the fanboys/girls scream at eachother in forums. “XBOX360 PWNED!” “ZOMG PS3 ROX !!11oNNE!” “NINTENDO 4 LIFE!!”

But honestly I have (semi) equal love for all of them (well Nintendo was pissing me off for a few years now but we’ll just forget that) all genres and platforms (yay for multiplatform-ness!) The only next-gen console I don’t have is a PS3…I’ve been praying for a price cut but with the release of FFXIII I may just have to go out and buy one. Or just wait until next payday. I love Sony because A) Umm…Final Fantasy anyone? Yeah I know Nintendo housed/houses them too, and Microsoft soon to be B) My original, big bulky PS2 will forever hold it’s place in my heart as my first DVD player C) Did I mention FF? D) All the wonderful JRPGs that are out there and sell on Ebay for ridiculous amounts of money (Seriously. FF7 goes for 60+ a pop. Not as bad as Earthbound or Chrono Trigger. Those go for 100+)

I’m curious to see “Project Natal” will do. (Everytime I say that I imagine a fetus). I’ve seen and read the previews and it definitely has me interested, not gonna lie.

Oh sweet sweetness. Just found out that I have G4. Either Comcast fucked up or I think it might just be a free trial or something but I’m gonna milk it for as long as it’s available! And of course the E3 showing is on at 6:00 am tomorrow…but better believe that alarm clock is getting set tonight! Now whether or not I sleep through it is another question!

Mmmkay off to play some COD4.

Funny video game quote before I go…
“Jill, here’s a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.” -Resident Evil

Britt’s note:

 BAHAHAHAHA. Oh dear God.

I totally remember writing this post. I was sitting on my couch one summer afternoon, bored with life, when I got a wild hair up my ass that lead to an IGN gaming blog. And to think I actually posted that for the world to see…HAHHAHAHAHAHA. How embarrassing.

I read this post from time to time (and cringe everytime) and it’s a hilarious reminder of how far I’ve come in terms of writing, industry knowledge, and pretty much everything else. I’ve been watching E3 as long as I can remember, but when this post was written the only company I followed was Nintendo. I had close to no knowledge about developers, publishers or any of the other platforms.

I like to think I’m smarter now. You know, because it makes me feel better about myself.

But seriously, this post was a doozy. Ouch.

  1. You’re lucky. When you look back, you enjoy seeing how far you’ve come. I look back and see a happier, funnier person. ;_; /emo

  2. hah! It is really cool that you decided to post this. I mean what a turn around in 2 years! It is really cool to see that there was a evolution, a refinement of someones entertaining musings from funny but cluttered thoughts (roflmao, lol). Keep up the entertaining evolution Britt!

    • HAHAHA! Totally! I think you summed everything up! “a refinement of someones entertaining musings from funny but cluttered thoughts”

      Thanks!

  3. That is quite the first impression, haha.

But seriously, what a long way your writing and passion for the gaming industry has come in just two short years. You seriously should apply for some of these Community Manager jobs that have been popping up lately.

Looking forward to more of your special blend of nerdiness! :)

  4. Wow, that post is like…what most gamers put on the net…and your posts are what I’d like to see more of on the net. Can you please start a college where you take newbs that post like you used to, and turns them into bright gamers that can write well thought out, witty articles with an understanding of the industry? please!? :) Great job, in 2 years you’ve come a long way!
