Britt5091 Origins: I Had Different Intentions…

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

I Had Different Intentions…

October 30th, 2009

I went to the mall today with serious intentions of coming back with cute new clothes.

But instead, I came back with this.

Damn you Best Buy for your sale.
Damn you EB Games for offering pre-order bonuses.
Damn you Game Informer for selling me 12 issues for $14.99.

Has anyone else taken advantage of the Best Buy sale? As much as I would have loved to purchase $60 titles I figured I’d do my wallet a favor by staying at the $29.99 price. I’m excited to finally own these games.

Left 4 Dead – I rented L4D once many moons ago and it vividly sticks out in my head as an insanely fun co-op shooter. As to why it wasn’t purchased sooner, I haven’t the slightest idea. True, the sequel releases in a few weeks, and I have the L4D2 Demo but honestly I’ve wanted this game for a while. I love me some zombies and it shall be a root-n-tootin’ good time. And yes I just said that.

Resistance: Fall of Man – What can I say? This lil’ franchise has had me intrigued a while now, and for the same reason Dead Space caught my interest. And Doom…and Area 51…you get it. Shooters, or any genre for that matter, that include aliens/mutated beings/zombies will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m really looking forward to the story. Alien races taking over Europe? Win.

MGS4 – Confession time! I’ve never had the satisfaction of playing a MGS game. I believe I have MGS2 around here somewhere, but I don’t remember playing it. A lot of you recommended this game when I first bought my PS3, and I remembered that as Mr. Snake’s old face was scowling at me through the box art. Really, I wish I would have gotten my hands on this series growing up; I feel as if I’m picking up a great novel and skipping to the very last chapter. Guilty feeling — ugh I hate that.

I’m a little late to the party with all of these titles, but better late than never!

Update – August 13, 2012

GUESS WHAT?! I actually played AND completed Resistance! I played L4D but I don’t think I ever finished it. Uh, Metal Gear Solid 4 is still in the shrink wrap.

Yeaaaaah. I also chuckled at my sentence “I believe I have MGS2 around here somewhere, but I don’t remember playing it” because I’m pretty sure I’ve accrued at least five or six copies of the MGS games since this post was made.

Yay for hoarding…!

  1. You have an amazing opportunity to play MGS1-4 in order, especially with MGS1 being on PSN and the HD collection being out. I wish I could play all 4 without knowing anything about them :(. I recommend you start with the first one and then play 2, 3, and 4, they’re great games and I really think they hold up.

      • You absolutely NEED to. In fact, you should probably just do that right now. MGS will change your life, and it would be really hard to understand the impact of MGS4 without having played the others.

  2. Whoops! I didn’t realize this was an old post lolz but srsly MGS owns what I said before still stands, play them in order if you haven’t yet : )

  3. Out of those 4 games, MGS4 was the one that went unopened. You make me sad. I’m thinking about it now and you should not break the seal or shrinkwrap. just put it away for about 10 years then you’ll have a kick ass collectable. it is too late for you.

      • I’m playing but there is some truff there. Seriously, If you haven’t opened your MGS4 keep it sealed. unopened copies of older games fetch a pretty penny sometimes. You kinda admitted your not on the up & up with MGS anyway.l say don’t open it .. it may help you out of a jam one day many many years into the future. … many many years. … many.
