Say Goodbye to Xbox Live Rewards System

XBL reardsY’know, I was once part of Xbox Live’s Reward System, and I think I was, like, booted out of the program without knowing because I have YET TO SEE A DAMN REWARD, MICROSOFT. Hell, I don’t even remember receiving my whopping 20 Microsoft Point “Birthday Bonus” — and hey, that equates to 25 cents, which is a LOT when you’re busy spending all of your extra money on video games.

It seems like I will never see those points, because Microsoft is making some ch-ch-ch-changes (Turn and face the stranger) ch-ch-changes, Don’t want to be a richer man…

“With all these changes [regarding the new console, blahblahblah], it’s become necessary for us to evolve the way we reward you. Starting August 1, 2013, you will not be able to earn Microsoft Points through Xbox Live Rewards any longer. Not to worry, though! Since this currency change is impacting the structure of the program, we’re taking the opportunity to make Xbox Live Rewards even better. You’ll continue to get rewarded for doing the things you love on Xbox Live – just not with Microsoft Points. So come back to rewards.xbox.com on September 1, 2013 for the full scoop. You can also follow us at @XboxLiveRewards on Twitter for the latest updates.”

WOOHOO! I mean, this isn’t ground-breaking “ZOMGJIZZINMYPANTS!” news, but nonetheless it’s good to see Microsoft taking a step in the direction of the good variety.

Keep it up, ol’ chap. Are you a part of the Xbox Live Rewards Program? Is it, um, worth it?

Xbox Live Rewards Program has been pretty crappy so far. I’ve been in it since it started and only have made 3100 Microsoft points. Of course I only even made that much cause of the couple of months they had 5% back on marketplace purchases back when I was buying 50 to 100 dollars of Rock Band dlc a month. They ask you to do or spend too much just to get a small amount MP. That Birthday gift of 20mp was like a slap in the face. I’m not sure how they can improve it if this is what they consider to be rewards so far. I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to just be given a stupid looking hat for my Avatar instead. Until they show some real rewards I wouldn’t bother with the program.

Oh wow, gotcha gotcha. thanks for your input — it helps clarify WTF this thing even is! 🙂

I’ve gotten some points out of it. Maybe a total of 800 perhaps. So it was something at least.

True, true. I’m wondering how much you have to pay to get ‘dem points.

      • Nick

That’s hard to quantify, only because they sometimes had special promos. Like if you played an Arcade title for a certain number of hours in a promo month, they will award you points. If you take a survey every month they will give you 20 points. So at least it wasn’t just “buy from Xbox live and you get a percentage of that back”.

Of course there were ways to get points without buying something. But most the goals were not worth the effort unless you were planning on playing a certain game a tons to get a small reward. But most the promo were you buying stuff. Ones like buy movies or tv season and get a like 160mp back or buy one of these select games from a theme like say spooky games in October and get a small amount back. Then they added the score card thing you can do each month. One is like buy 5 XBLA games and get 1600mp back. But all 5 games have to be 1600mp or higher in price. This is only cool if you want to buy 5 1600mp games in one month anyways. But at least that one you get 1600mp back. Most are much smaller. Of yeah they do give you a like 1000mp the first time you use Netflix on your X-Box but only if the first time was after you enrolled in the program. Same with things like first purchase on the XBLM. And you get some back for renewing. But on the average the most you make a lot of months is 20mp for the survey. And you don’t get your points till you have 100mp stored up.
