Britt5091 Origins: Gaming life: mine is going away for a while.

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

Gaming life: mine is going away for a while.

August 14th, 2009

Believe it or not, we all have a life outside of our gaming universe and that life can get in the way of gaming. For some of us, the daily grind (aka work, school) takes up our entire week and leaves us only with the weekends for game time. Then our weekends fill up with other things and THAT leaves us with no time.

This is exactly what is going to be happening to yours truly within the next couple months. And while I’m bummed I won’t be able to spend much quality time with my wonder machines, I’m pretty excited for a few things coming up.

August 30th
AC/DC Concert

Got tickets for my birthday. They are getting old. I am excited. That is all.

August 31st
NEW APARTMENT!

YAY! No more knob busting!! It?s only 7 or 8 blocks from where I live now, about twice the size, and only $30 bucks extra a month. I’ve been living a in a pit for about a year now. I’m looking forward to the following when I move:

1) Leaky faucets–gone!
2) A toilet that flushes consistently (horror storiez:I has them)
3) Faucet knobs that don’t bust off (c’mon. I’m not THAT strong)
4) No more short circuiting the kitchen while having a toaster and microwave powered
on at the same time.
5) A mother effin DISHWASHER
6) Saying goodbye to that mysterious yellow stain that has been covered with a throw rug for about a year now

September 4th-6th
PAX 2009

Or Penny Arcade Expo for you cute lil n00bs out there, though I really have no room to talk, as I had no idea this annual convention takes place 10 minutes away from my apartment. But OMFGGG I’m so giddy. The schedule of panels and full list of exhibitors were released yesterday. The exhibitors that are going to be attending are aamaazziiing. Unfortunately a lot of the panels I want to check out run concurrently with each other, thus I’m going to need to take mucho time and plan out a schedule.

Starting September 5th
University of Washington Football

Ahh, college football. Crisp fall mornings, 6 hours of tailgating, chilly evening nights, face and body paint, demolishing every team that crosses your path—wait what?

Okay scratch that last part about demolishing. Last year the Huskies went 0-12. Booo. But other than that aspect I am excited for football to get underway. I love to tailgate. Eat the best greasy food you’ve ever had and drink beer until you don’t care you’re the worst team in the country! (Or that you just lost 56-0 against USC…ouch.)

We were desperate for a win. So desperate we tried pulling a few moves on ‘Harry the Husky’

RIGHT after this drunken pic of me and my best tailgating buddy was taken, this dude bumped into her and spilled his bear aaalll over us.

For the months of August thru November
Bear/Dear/ Elk Hunting

Yessss. It’s that time of the year again. Bear hunting began August 1st here in WA, but I haven’t been able to get out and zero my rifles in and the last thing I want is daddy black bear charging me just to have my aim a few inches off. I get in my ‘zone’ when I’m in the woods. These instincts you don’t even know you possess pull through. It’s awesome.

Aaaand that is pretty much what’s going to be keeping me preocupado for the next several weeks. These tend to be pretty busy months anyway.

Anyone else feel my pain?

Febuary 2nd, 2012

If this post were to be written today, it would still be called “Gaming life: mine is going away for a while” but the reasons for it would be two podcasts and a website. Or something. HA! But it is funny to read this post–not because of the oh-so-painful reminder that the Huskies did go 0-12—but because I had just bought my tickets to my first PAX!

Ah, I was such a n00b. If I only knew of what was in store for me…
