Britt5091 Origins: BRING THIS SERIES BACK!….NOW! Please?

Welcome to Britt5091: Origins, where I dig up old blog posts I used to write for IGN’s community under the username Britt5091. Some posts may make you giggle, some may make your eyes bleed, and some may make you stroke your beard in a pensive manner. All you need to know is that these posts, no matter how terrible some of them may be, ultimately lead to everything I do now.

BRING THIS SERIES BACK!….NOW! Please?

July 22, 2009

I know, I know, the latest installment has been ‘confirmed’.  But damnit its been way too long since our buddies at SingleTrac (which turned into) Incognito Entertainment (which branched off to form) Eat Sleep Play has blessed us with a gnarly experience for the vehicular combat genre.

Granted, Twisted Metal Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition released last year for the PlayStation 2. It was a port of the PSP original Head-On (released in 2005), however included “Twisted Metal Lost”, which contained new levels, characters, never seen before endings to the original Twisted Metal and other behind the scenes concent. A solid buy for $20.

But!

I’m just waiting for the day a PS3 Twisted Metal blasts down the wall and rolls out in all its armored glory.

Give me crazy ballistic projectiles. Give me Hammerhead, Axel, Warthog, Thumper, Roadkill, Minion, Spectre, Outlaw, Mr. Grimm and Mr. Slam. As much as I hate most of those characters, it brings about a greater joy when blasting them to Oblivion.

Bring back some oldies like Pit Viper, who hasn’t seen any love since the original. But whatever you do, please do not bring back Club Kid. Dear God please don’t do that.

I love this series. Love love love it.

Call me old school, but Twisted Metal 2 is by far my favorite, followed by the original. Hammerhead is my homeboy.

Each unique stage has different things to offer depending on your gaming style. If you’re the kind of gamer that thrives on strategy and patience, or want to wait until the competition kills each other off (shame on you), there are areas of each level to discover, making for a sweet hiding place…for a while. Or, if you’re a run and gun, show no mercy, leave no prisoners gamer, wide open areas are plentiful and provide for intense battles. My favorite stage is Paris, but I love the clusterfuck that is Holland.

It’s not that I don’t care for the later installments. They’re good games, but not great Twisted Metal games. They’re different. You know what I mean? The code was completely re-written for 3 and 4, and I haven’t played much of Black and Head-On.

Twisted Metal fans! What do you, or don’t you want to see in the upcoming game? What’s your favorite game of the series? Favorite character? Or do you hate this series? Let me know!

Britt’s Note:

See, this is the kind of stuff that trips me out. I would have never guessed that 11 months down the road I’d be at E3 2010 witnessing the official unveil of the new Twisted Metal game. Like, had you told me, “Ohai Britt! Guess what? I know you want the Twisted Metal games to come back, but in less than a year you’ll sitting in Sony’s audience when David Jaffe will roll out with a life-sized Sweet Tooth truck. He will then announce this game you’ve been anticipating mere feet in front of your FACE. Also, you’ll play it later that day.”

BWUH?! I would have told you to shut the front door. But alas:

Somehow I was able to snap a picture without freaking the EFF out!

We live in a strange world, kids.

But touching on some of the things I “wanted”, it looks like a lot of those aforementioned characters won’t be playable. In fact, if I remember correctly (and I hope to God I’m wrong) I want to say there will only be a few characters available to choose from; Mr. Grimm, Dollface, Sweet Tooth and the…Preacher? I think? If that’s the case, that’s whack. Each character will associate with a faction (ie; Dollface is associated with The Dolls, Mr. Grimm with the Skulls, etc.). Now, I might be confused because I have heard that certain vehicles are returning (Like Darkside, AXEL!!!, Outlaw, etc) but I’m not sure whether or not those vehicles are available only for multiplayer shenanigans.

Thankfully, it sounds like the multiplayer is coming in full force, and that’s all I really care about anyway.

Hurry up, February!!!
