BEST. TRAILER. EVER. has an exclusive trailer for Dead Island. It. Blows. My. Mind.

Being the zombie-nut that I am, I’ve been keeping tabs on Dead Island since it was announced in 2007. At the time, developer Techland was having issues finding a publisher and the game seemingly fell of of the grid. But now that we have a trailer to gawk at, we know there has been life given to this undead title, and thank GOD for it.

In a nutshell, players will assume the role as a tourist staying on the island of Banoi at the Royal Palms Resort. But when people begin turning into zombies (sounds like an ideal vacation to me!) you and a small group of survivors must work together to survive and find a way off of the island. Gameplay has been described by TechLand as a “first-person zombie-slasher/action-RPG.”.

It also sounds like Techland isn’t going to be generous with the firearms. Which is fine and will give the game a more realistic edge—after all, what are the chances of stumbling across an armory on a lush island? But you know what this means? You’ll need to use whatever you can find in order to fend off the zombies. Not only that, but each weapon will “dull” with repeated use, so don’t get too attached to that baseball bat.

So, uh, holy shit! It’s been a LONG time since I’ve found myself so immersed by a trailer (by the time it ended I’m pretty sure there was a puddle of drool on my keyboard) but I keep having to remind myself this is ONLY a CG trailer. Sigh…if only the greatness of a game was reflected by it’s trailer.

It’ll be interesting to see actual gameplay, although (and maybe this is me being a terrible person) the trailer was SOSOSO good I’m nervous it won’t live up to the trailer; “it” being the gameplay/story/controls…EVERYTHING. Because that would make a very sad panda. Point being, this trailer has upped my expectations ten-fold. Mrrrrr.

I would expect to see something in the not-too-distant future though, seeing as this game is scheduled to hit Xbox360, PS3 and PC sometime this year.

Fingers crossed!
